Barrel thickness is one of the key factors affecting writing comfort. After measuring the ballpoint pens currently in use at home, the outer circumference of the barrels generally ranges from 3cm to 3.5cm, with diameters approximately between 0.8cm and 1.1cm.

Although the barrels of my household gel pens measure between 0.8cm and 1.1cm in diameter, based on personal preference, I find gel pens with slightly thicker barrels offer superior comfort during writing compared to those with thinner barrels.

Therefore, I recommend that parents purchasing gel pens for children just beginning to use them avoid selecting pens with barrels that are excessively thick or thin. This ensures a comfortable writing experience for the child.
